Things to do on Exmoor

You don’t have to go horse riding during your stay at Pine Lodge, our cottages provide a great base for walking, hiking, cycling or just exploring Exmoor. There are lots of things to see and do locally, whatever you like to do.

Things to do at Pine Lodge

Horse riding – Suitable for all abilities and children. For more experienced riders we offer Safari Day Rides, where we stop at a local inn for lunch. You can find out more about the different rides we offer on the Pine Lodge Riding website. Please mention if you would like to ride when you book your stay and we can arrange this for you.
Walking – There are lots of local routes across rolling farmland, wooded valleys and moorland with opportunities to see wild red deer, Exmoor ponies and other fauna and flora. Both the Exmoor Society and the National Park Authority offer guided walks throughout the year and it is worth checking out their websites to see what’s happening locally.
Cycling – There are lots of great cycling trails over the moor if you want to bring your bike with you. You can also hire bikes and other equipment from Exmoor Adventures, based near Porlock Weir.
Relax – The cottages offer a comfortable place to unwind at a slower pace, away from the distractions of modern life. Exmoor was the first place in Europe to be designated as a dark sky reserve so if you enjoy star spotting, bring your telescope along!

Things to do locally

Pine Lodge is situated 2 miles from the picturesque town of Dulverton, which features some great independent shops, tea rooms and restaurants.
Local attractions include Tarr Steps, an ancient stone clapper bridge, Landacre Bridge which is a great spot for wild swimming and Dunkery Beacon – the highest point on Exmoor.
We are just 18 miles from the coast at Porlock and 35 miles from Woolacombe, with plenty of other great coastal towns and villages to explore nearby, including Lynton, Lynmouth, Valley of Rocks, Bossington and Combe Martin.
Families can enjoy a great local day out at Dunster Castle (National Trust), Devon Railway Centre, the West Somerset Railway, Diggerland, Crealy Theme Park, Wimbleball Lake and the Exmoor Pony Centre.
There are lots of interesting things happening in the area every year, including the Exmoor Dark Skies Festival every October, Dulverton Literary Festival in November and Dulverton by Starlight in December, along with local walking, running, cycling and canicross events.
